ICSI
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a specialized form of IVF used primarily to treat male-factor infertility. Unlike traditional IVF, where many sperm are placed near an egg in a dish, ICSI involves the direct injection of a single, high-quality sperm into a mature egg. This precision-based technique significantly increases the chances of fertilization when sperm count, motility, or morphology is a concern.

ICSI FAQ
How is ICSI different from standard IVF?
In standard IVF, fertilization happens “naturally” in a dish with thousands of sperm. In ICSI, our embryologist selects one single sperm and injects it directly into the egg. This removes the barriers that often prevent fertilization in cases of low sperm quality.
Does ICSI increase the risk of birth defects?
Extensive research shows that the vast majority of children born via ICSI are healthy. While there is a very slight statistical increase in certain conditions, this is often related to the underlying infertility of the parents rather than the procedure itself. We provide expert genetic counseling to discuss all aspects of your health.
Is ICSI recommended for every couple?
While ICSI is a powerful tool, it is specifically recommended for male-factor infertility, previous fertilization failure, or when using frozen sperm/eggs. During your consultation, we perform a comprehensive fertility analysis to determine if ICSI is the most effective path for you.
What happens to the embryos after ICSI?
Once fertilization is confirmed, the embryos are monitored in our lab for 3 to 5 days, just like in a standard IVF cycle. We then perform a precision embryo transfer or offer cryopreservation for future use, depending on your personalized treatment plan.
